Technische Universität Chemnitz

The Technische Universität Chemnitz (TUC) has 180 years of experience in technical education.
The Institute for Machine Tools and Production Processes (IWP) will participate to this project. The IWP consist of five Professorships with over 200 researchers, technical and administrative employees. The research focuses on Machine Tools, Forming technologies, virtual product development, micro manufacturing, adaptronics and lightweight design in production. Until recently the IWP has coordinated the THERMACO project (EU, FP7, www.thermaco.eu) and was participating in the HI-MICRO project (EU, FP7, www.hi-micro.eu). At the IWP, the Professorship for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (WZMU) of Prof. Reimund Neugebauer (President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft) is the largest one. It was founded in 1956, has 40 researchers, 15 technical and administrative employees and consists of the following research groups: Machine Tools, Control and Feedback Control Technology, Cutting Technology as well as Process Informatics and Virtual Product Development.
The Division Process Informatics and Virtual Product Development with its Virtual Reality Center Production Engineering (VRCP) laboratory has more than thirteen years of research experience in the field of virtual technologies for production engineering. The VRCP is an interdisciplinary platform for research, development, and application of VR/AR technologies, focusing on machine simulation, mechanical engineering and production technology. One of the goals is the permanent research and development of innovative technologies for practical usage within companies. Currently the VRCP participates in several national research projects. In addition we participated in the international research project uTRUSTit (EU, FP7) and the Saxon Cluster of Excellence “Energy-efficient Product and Process Innovations in Production Engineering” (eniPROD). We also host a bi-annual conference in the field of Virtual and Augmented Reality (VAR²).

Role in the project

The IWP leads WP5 (AR & PLIV Applications).
